Undergraduate Program: Overview

Exercise Science provides students with expertise in exercise physiology and human nutrition. FSU was the first university in the nation to offer this innovative curriculum combining nutrition and exercise physiology.

Exercise Science prepares students for graduate study in exercise physiology and post-graduate training in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, chiropractic, physician’s assistant, and physical or occupational therapy programs. Students are also prepared for positions as personal trainers and health fitness instructors with hospital-based and corporate fitness programs. Graduates are prepared to enter certification programs offered through the American College of Sports Medicine. The program requires extensive coursework in anatomy, physiology, chemistry, exercise physiology, and metabolism. A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required for graduation in this major.

Practica

Students may have the opportunity to apply knowledge and skills through supervised practica. In the practicum courses, students may be assigned to work with specific medical and community agencies.

Student Organizations

Students have many opportunities to develop leadership skills in professional settings, through participation in student organizations such as the Student Dietetic Association.
